You get a retro flip clock that marks time with real motion — a battery movement drops one card a minute, all day, with a soft click you can hear across a quiet room. It is a gentle mechanical rhythm instead of a glowing screen.

The blades are stainless steel and PVC, fitted to a solid black walnut base that anchors the piece on your desk or shelf. With no screen, no glow and no notifications, it asks nothing of your attention.

  • Battery movement flips a card every minute with a soft click
  • Stainless steel and PVC blades on a solid black walnut base
  • No screen, no glow, no notifications
  • A steady all-day rhythm that reads as calm, not noise

Let this retro flip clock turn time into something you watch, not something that watches you.

Overview

Once a minute a card releases and falls, and the time changes with a soft click. At three in the morning it does nothing else: no glow on the ceiling, no flashing colon, nothing to wake you.

It also runs without attention. A battery movement flips the cards, so there is nothing to wind or touch. You set it once and leave it on a solid black walnut base that is heavy enough to absorb each drop.

Care

A dry cloth is all the cleaning it needs. Set the time using the knob on the right, turning it forwards. A standard carbon battery suits the movement best and keeps the time steady.

Materials

A solid black walnut base carries a 304 stainless steel column that widens into two wing arms angled downward, holding twin cassettes of PVC flip blades with bold white condensed numerals. A battery movement in the rear compartment drives it.

  • Base: solid black walnut, 13 × 7 cm
  • Frame: column and wing arms in 304 stainless steel
  • Blades: PVC flip cards with bold white numerals and a 24-hour display; they lift out and clip back in
  • Size: 20.5 cm wide × 14 cm tall, ~605 g
  • Power: battery movement in the rear compartment (battery not included)

Big numerals

Readable from across the room

The hours and the minutes each have their own cassette, so the numerals are large, not cramped, and you can read them from the doorway as well as from arm's length. The display is 24-hour, which feels unfamiliar for about a day and then just becomes the way you read the time.

Battery movement

It runs itself

A battery movement flips the cards without help: one card a minute, day and night, for as long as the battery lasts. Set it once using the knob on the right, then leave it. There is nothing to wind, press or charge.

The build

Three materials

The base is solid black walnut, the column and arms are 304 stainless steel, and the PVC flip blades lift out and clip back in. There is nothing to update and nothing to pair.

The base is the surprise

I have had a flip clock before and it slowly wandered across the shelf because every card drop nudged it. This one has a proper lump of walnut underneath and has not moved at all. The grain is real, not a printed veneer, which at this price I honestly did not expect.

Bought it to get the phone off the nightstand

That was the whole point and it has worked. No glow at all in the night, and the click is soft enough that I stopped noticing it within two nights — my partner never noticed it. Twenty-four hour only took me a day to get used to. Numbers are big enough to read from the bedroom door without glasses.

Looks far more expensive than it was

It looks far more expensive on the shelf than it was — the walnut and the stainless together read properly considered. Setting it takes seconds with the knob. Two months in and it has not skipped a card.

Frequently asked questions

Does it flip on its own?
Yes. A battery movement inside flips the cards, one a minute, all day, and there is nothing to wind or touch. The battery compartment is at the back. The battery is not included, and a standard carbon cell suits the movement best.
How is the time set?
Use the knurled knob on the right-hand side, in the minute area. Turn it forwards only, never backwards, and the hour blades advance as the minutes come round. The hour blades are not turned by hand.
Is it noisy during the night?
It makes one soft click a minute as a card releases and falls, more like a page turning than a clock ticking, and there is no tick in between. Most people stop noticing it within a couple of nights. It also gives off no light at all, which is why most people buy one.
Can it show 12-hour time?
The display is 24-hour, from 00 to 23. It feels unfamiliar for about a day and then becomes automatic, and afternoon times are clear at a glance.
Is the base real wood?
Yes. It is solid black walnut, not a printed veneer over board. The wood does a job as well as looking good: the cards drop with a small jolt every minute, and a heavy, wide base absorbs it so the clock does not rattle or creep along the shelf. The column and wing arms are 304 stainless steel.
